Supporting up and coming talent with NEWH UK and Roca

By August 1, 2017News, Work outings

Earlier in June our design team was invited by Roca to attend the NEWH UK Annual Fundraiser and Scholarship Presentations, held at the Courthouse Hotel Shoreditch. This is an evening to celebrate new and emerging talent and network with peers.

The NEWH organisation focuses on the hospitality industry. It’s about Scholarship, Education, and Business Networking. There are 18 chapters and 4 regional groups – predominantly in the USA, but also in Canada and the UK. With such a strong focus on education and enabling students to achieve assistance with their studies as well as work placements etc, this is an organisation that Rethink Interiors fully supports.

The Courthouse Hotel Shoreditch is housed within a Grade II listed Baroque style building so it was interesting to visit and take a look at the interior design on our way to the function space. Some of the features of the hotel we particularly liked were the impressive grand staircase in the main lobby, the cinema style function room, and 2 lane bowling alley!

The evening started with drinks and networking, along with an opportunity to view the students work. We then headed into the cinema room for the scholarship presentations. Following a brief overview of each of the students’ project submissions, and some words from industry professionals, there were three students named as the winners of the scholarships and one student whose work was highly commended. All four students received a generous cheque to help assist with their studies, along with a copy of the Metric Handbook – a must have for any designer!

We were then invited upstairs to the hotel’s roof top terrace to enjoy more drinks and canapes whilst overlooking the London skyline.

The evening was sponsored by Kohler, Roca, Electric Mirror, Design Form, Amtrend and Optima Leathers. We’d like to especially thank Roca for inviting us to attend as their guests.

The evening was a great success – it was fabulous to see some great up and coming designers’ ideas, as well as catch up with familiar faces!
