Clerkenwell Design Week – a time for being inspired and discovering new leading UK and international brands, whilst catching up over a drink or two! It’s our favourite time of year where we are ‘obliged’ to take time away from our desks and explore one of the most important design hubs of the world, which is luckily on our doorstep! Showcasing new lighting, furniture, flooring to the latest gadgets and accessories!
On entering the design factory, we were once again greeted by the eye-catching feature wall by Johnson’s tiles. This wall consisted of a mix of tiles and mirrors, positioned cleverly so on entrance the wall appears neutral, yet on exiting it takes an entirely different look of bold and bright colours. We have been left intrigued to see how they will top it in 2016…
The main design factory space was spread over a few floors and had a wide variety of products on display which proved interesting, yet slightly repetitive in terms of the previous year. One new edition that caught my eye was the Concrete LCDA stand. Typically used for its strength and performance rather than appearance, Concrete LCDA pushed the boundaries for concrete fluid to take the exact formworks. The stand displayed various panels with different imprints, such as fabric and stitching to wood imprints; turning a cheap material into a unique versatile material, which made it a particular favourite of mine.
We finished the evening off by heading to a couple of the showrooms:
Mosa tiles greeted us with yummy canapés, whilst allowing us to widen our tiles suppliers and knowledge.
Design Work Tiles had a vast selection of tiles; pearl, glitter, lilac, you name it – they had it! Plus their cheeky advertising campaign of dogs doing various rude activities, with their rude parts blurred out was definitely a talking point.
Our time at Clerkenwell ended up in the Desso/Egger showroom, where we are always greeted with a friendly face along with a great selection of products – this time with the added bonus of a cocktail bar! An eventful day overall and I think we can safely say we were all inspired. Next year can’t come quick enough!
