Last week we headed over to the Surface Design Show 2017, which was held in the Business Centre in Angel. I always enjoy visiting this building as I find the structure, especially the ceiling so impressive and it’s also nice knowing we are bound to bump into and catch up with some familiar faces! It was my first time at the event, so I was keen to explore how far a “surface” can be interpreted in the design world.
The entrance was quite overwhelming and although unsure of where to start, we set off amongst the crowds. There were hundreds of stands ranging from products offering tiles, veneers, marble, laminates, mesh curtains (things you would expect) to more unusual, innovative products. Our favourites included a company that offered origami style, folded materials to another providing plant and moss walls, recommended for reducing stress levels. This is no doubt beneficial to the many people living in the buzz of London! Saving the environment and encouraging a more peaceful way of life, is becoming increasingly popular amongst our population and so it was interesting to also see how this is developing within design.
We discovered a lot of inspiring/useful products, which we are excited to learn more about and hopefully specify in the future. It is always important for us to attend these events, to not only build relationships with suppliers, but to increase our product awareness within the hospitality market. It is inspiring and sparks ideas of how we can incorporate these into our projects, and encourages us to think outside the box to produce intriguing interiors that people can enjoy.
